Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced PHP Developer to work with our client in India. The role is suited to a senior software professional with strong hands-on PHP experience, working knowledge of Python, and the ability to understand and modify large open-source codebases. You should be comfortable with Git-based development, code reviews, testing, and validating software changes before handoff.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and maintain production-quality software with PHP as the primary development language.
- Work with large and established open-source codebases and make changes without affecting existing functionality.
- Implement and review Java and Rust features based on clear technical specifications.
- Use Python for scripting, development tooling, validation, data-related tasks, and testing support.
- Create, execute, and improve test suites to verify that features work correctly before handoff.
- Use Git confidently for branching, diffs, patches, code review, and day-to-day source control.
- Investigate issues, validate fixes, and help maintain the stability and quality of production software.
- Collaborate with engineering team members to clarify requirements and ensure work meets agreed specifications.
Required Technical Skills
- 4+ years of experience building production software in a senior capacity.
- Strong hands-on PHP development experience.
- Working knowledge of Python for scripting, tooling, data work, testing, or validation.
- Ability to read, understand, and modify large open-source software codebases.
- Strong Git skills, including branching, diffs, patches, and code reviews.
- Good understanding of software testing and validating changes before release or handoff.
- Ability to work with Java and Rust code and implement or review features against defined specifications.
Preferred Technical Skills
- Experience working across multiple programming languages such as Java, Rust, Go, PHP, and Python.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining mature open-source projects.
- Exposure to automated testing, validation tooling, and software quality practices.
- Experience working with large or complex backend systems.
Required Skills
- Strong problem-solving and debugging ability.
- Ability to understand existing code rather than relying only on greenfield development.
- Attention to detail when reviewing code and validating changes.
- Ability to work individually.
- Clear communication and effective collaboration with technical teams.
AI Experience
AI experience is not specifically required.
Managerial Experience
Formal people-management experience is not mandatory.
Operational Experience
- Experience supporting production software and working within established development processes.
- Hands-on experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, patches, and source-control practices.
- Experience testing and validating software changes before handoff.
- Comfort working with existing and large-scale codebases.
Qualifications
UG: Any Graduate. A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field will be preferred.
Certifications
Relevant software development, PHP, or technology certifications are optional.
Experience
4+ years of professional experience building production software, preferably in a senior development capacity.
