We are a talent acquisition and staff augmentation firm, and we are currently hiring on behalf of one of our clients, an enterprise software and product engineering organization. Our client is looking to onboard an Automation Test Engineer across multiple locations in India for an onsite/hybrid role that can be offered on a full-time, part-time, or contractual basis, depending on the candidate’s preference and eligibility.
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Automation Test Engineer with 4–9 years of hands-on expertise in Selenium (Java) and Playwright to own test automation for web applications end to end. In this role, you will design and maintain automation frameworks, lead test execution and defect management, and work directly with client stakeholders to ensure quality across releases. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys building robust, reusable automation solutions and mentoring others along the way.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks using Selenium (Java) and Playwright for web-based applications.
- Create and execute test plans and test cases based on project requirements, and prepare effort estimates and schedules.
- Lead test execution cycles and manage defect tracking and resolution through to closure.
- Build reusable, maintainable automation libraries, utilities, and scripts.
- Implement BDD/TDD practices using tools such as Cucumber, Serenity, or Playwright-BDD.
- Perform API automation testing using tools such as Rest Assured and Postman.
- Use code coverage tools to track testing effectiveness and integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Work directly with client stakeholders to understand requirements, testing scope, and priorities.
- Mentor and guide junior test engineers on automation best practices and framework design.
- Contribute to QA strategy, proposals, and solutioning for new client engagements.
- Build dashboards and reports that provide clear visibility into test coverage, execution status, and quality metrics.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in UI automation using Selenium with Java.
- Practical, hands-on experience with Playwright for web automation.
- Expert in Java; and familiar or good knowledge in additional scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Shell is a plus.
- Good Hands-On with API automation testing using Rest Assured or Postman.
- Working knowledge of BDD/TDD frameworks such as Cucumber and Serenity.
- Familiarity with code coverage tools such as JaCoCo or JSCover.
- Strong analytical skills for test design, defect triaging, and root-cause analysis.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with client teams.
AI Experience
- Familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools for test case generation, self-healing scripts, or defect prediction is a plus.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to speed up automation script development and debugging.
Managerial Experience
- Experience guiding and mentoring junior automation engineers on technical approach and best practices.
- Ability to lead test execution cycles and coordinate defect triage across a team.
- Comfortable interfacing directly with client stakeholders on testing scope, priorities, and status updates.
Operational Experience
- Experience maintaining automation frameworks in live project environments with minimal disruption to releases.
- Familiarity with integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins.
- Track record of managing testing timelines, effort estimation, and delivery schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 4–9 years of relevant experience in software testing and automation.
Certifications
- ISTQB or an equivalent software testing certification (preferred, not mandatory).
